Child support is based on a formula that takes into account each parent’s gross income to determine the amount of support. The number of overnights that a child spends with a parent also plays a role in the amount of child support awarded. The amount of support paid decreases only when the payor parent spends over 128 overnights with the child. Other factors used to calculate the support include the amounts paid by either party for daycare, after school care, children’s medical insurance, or private school tuition.
