I am a Kentucky native, but have chosen West Virginia as my home. I graduated summa cum laude from the University of Louisville in 1996, with a B.A. in Political Science, and with a Minor in Spanish. While at U of L, I received honors and awards including Commonwealth Academic Scholarships and the Erin Lyons Rouse Award. I was a member of Pi Sigma Alpha, the political science honor society, the Woodcock Society, and the Honors Department. Also, I was named to the Dean's List each semester. After receiving my degree from the University of Louisville, I attended West Virginia University College of Law. While there, I had the honor of being selected for the Clinical Law Program. In this program, law students provide legal services for those who cannot afford legal representation. It was in this program where I first began the practice of family law, representing clients in divorce and custody actions. I received my J.D. in May 1999, and was admitted to the West Virginia State Bar that fall. Since that time, I have worked primarily in the litigation field. Initially, I practiced in the areas of personal injury and employment law litigation. However, in December 2001, I returned to family law when I began working for the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, Bureau for Child Support Enforcement. I have practiced in both Family Courts and Circuit Courts across West Virginia, representing the State in paternity actions, actions for the establishment and enforcement of child support obligations, and in actions for the enforcement of spousal support obligations. My diverse background has provided me with extensive experience in many areas of family law, and has made me an aggressive litigator and advocate. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling and shopping for antiques. I miss my family in Kentucky very much, so I try to visit them as often as possible. I also lead a Weight Watchers Meeting in Charleston, West Virginia, at least once each week. However, I most enjoy quiet evenings at home with my husband, Larry, and our dogs.
